Exploring, researching, creating colour and light is what most artists do; for some it’s the subject itself.
I like motifs to glue my ideas together and see what progress I am making, assemble some order in my thinking, to show my workings out and points of arrival. The X for me is an essential motif. An ancient symbol, it marks the spot, it’s a simple mark a signature, a no go sign, a kiss, it is a beautiful shape.
I have used the X to learn about colour. I have made simple sprayed paintings exploring tertiary, gray scale and process colours, experimented with reflected light and colour in folded paper pieces and found natural light in alabaster carvings. Back to metal and coreten steel, the X found its way into three dimension work in the Reckless Kiss, A Little Reckless and The Buttoned Up Existentialist.
